At this time Trinity needs to fill the position of Deputy Warden which has been vacant for an extended period of time as well as filling the position of Warden once Bill White steps down in February. It is a requirement that we have two Wardens and ideally two Deputy Wardens. It was suggested at a recent meeting that it would be helpful to outline the duties and responsibilities of these positions for the congregation so that people can consider if they would be interested in filling either position. The position is a one year term, volunteer position and the Wardens are considered a corporation who work closely with the Incumbent and oversee the ministry and business issues of the parish and are the legal representatives to Synod. Deputy Wardens assist the Wardens with their responsibilities.
The Churchwarden’s responsibilities are laid out in the Canon Law of the Diocese of Toronto:
- Attend Warden’s meeting once/month
- Attend Advisory Board meeting approximately 6 times/year (Zoom)
- Attend St. Paul’s Cemetery Board Meeting two times /year (Zoom)
- Communicate with the parish formally through the newsletter and other parish letters and in person.
- Work with and support the treasurer in managing financial matters of the church including signing cheques, regular review of Trinity’s financial status, review of current contracts such as snowplowing and other required maintenance.
- Work closely with the Property Committee
- Available for parish emergencies such as alarms, property damage
Skills required:
- Strong organizational, leadership and communication skills
- Commitment to ongoing spiritual growth and development
- Ability to support, cultivate and motivate other volunteers in the Parish
- Interest in the long-term stability, growth and development of the church
- Welcome newcomers and help them to integrate into the parish
The current senior leadership have created a collaborative and well-rounded team who offer individual gifts. “On the job” training is provided. The position of Warden is considered “high risk” and appropriate screening is required.
Please consider if you are willing and may be able to fill the position of Warden or Deputy Warden for Trinity and do not hesitate to speak with Reverend Dana or Bill, Marcia or Gretchen if you have any questions.
