As Flu, COVID-19 and other viruses continue to circulate, we would like to remind you to self-screen and stay home if you or family members are ill. The good news is that Sunday services are streamed on our Facebook page. In this way we help to care for and protect each other.
Worship in June
– Tuesdays: Evening Prayer, 7:30 pm in the church, up to and including June 23.
– Wednesdays: Morning Prayer from the Rectory on Facebook at 9 am and available afterwards.
June 7 – 2nd Sunday after Pentecost* – Communion and Sunday School
June 14 – 3rd Sunday after Pentecost – Communion and Anointing.
June 21 – National Indigenous Day of Prayer – Communion and Sunday School (last one before summer)
In 2010 the General Synod (national governing body) added this day which ranks as a Feast with Precedence over a Sunday, in this case the 4th Sunday after Pentecost.
June 28 – 5th Sunday after Pentecost – Communion
To celebrate the transition to summer, there will be lunch after the service. Hot dogs and drinks will be provided and there is a sign-up sheet for a couple of salads, some fruit or desserts to round out our lunch. Hopefully people will stay and enjoy some fellowship after the service.
Additional Services
Sunday June 14, 2pm, St. Paul’s Cemetery Annual Decoration Day service. A short service of remembrance will be followed by the opportunity to place carnations provided or other flowers on the grave of those we remember. Please bring a lawn chair and as there is very little shade available; a hat and sunscreen may be helpful.
* A note about the change in seasons: With the celebration of Trinity Sunday at the end of May, we begin Ordinary Time on June 7. Ordinary Time begins the Sunday after Trinity Sunday and ends with the Reign of Christ just before Advent. There are a few Sundays, as noted above on June 21, when another designated Sunday takes precedence. “Ordinary” is used not in contrast to special, but from the same Latin root as ordinals, as in numbers. In this way Ordinary Time are the numbered Sundays that make up more than half of our church calendar. At one time the Sundays were numbered from Trinity Sunday, but for the last 40+ years have been the Sundays after Pentecost. So, while the Sundays are identified as the Sundays after Pentecost, it is not the Season after Pentecost.
One of the distinctive features of Ordinary Time is that our Sunday readings shift from being thematically connected to each other each week, to being a continuous reading in the three streams of Hebrew Scripture, New Testament (aside from the Gospel and Acts), and the Gospel. So, throughout this time, our reading from each of the streams gives us a better sense of the books and their overall flow or theme.
I hope this gives you a better understanding of the Church Season we are about to enter and how the readings are connected week to week. – Rev. Dana
Sunday School
Sunday School for children in Jr. K and up is on the first and third Sundays each month. Children begin upstairs with their parents, before going downstairs with Miss Elizabeth, and back up later at communion time. For parents with children, the family room is available every Sunday, with a baby gate and a monitor for hearing the service. For those who may wish to stay in the church worship activity bags for children are available by the table under the bell tower. Please leave the activity bags after the service to be refilled for another time.
Wednesday Morning Prayer from the rectory
Wednesday Morning Prayer from the Rectory at 9 am live on Facebook and available for one month afterwards.
COVID precautions
We will continue to have a social distance corner and would ask if you are seated here to wear a mask, as those in this area are there for added precaution.
Self-screening is so important! If you feel ill, please don’t come and share it with others! The livestream is always an option.
Let’s continue to take care of each other and keep each other safe!
