“The Way of Love” is a study series centred around seven practices for a Jesus-centred life. Developed by Bishop Michael Curry of the American Episcopal Church, it is a call for Christians at all stages in their faith journeys to deepen their faith and commitments to Christ and the world. Bishop Curry introduces it as, “The Way of Love” is a way of life. More than a program or curriculum, it is a return to the ancient pathways and Rules of Life that followers of Jesus have observed for centuries. They knew the power of commitment to a core set of practices – Turn, Learn, Pray, Worship, Bless, Go, Rest – and the power of gathering in a small group where you find love and support for living into these commitments. If we hope to not only worship Jesus but to grow more like him and bear his redeeming love in the world, we can adopt a rule of life like the “Way of Love” and find a community with which to practice it.” Please join us as you are able on Tuesday evenings up to and including February 25. Each evening begins with Evening Prayer at 7:30 pm, followed by fellowship and then our study. Each week will involve a video and discussion of one of the practices.
Lenten Study Group “Signs of Life” from Rev. Dana
As you will see in my article “From Rev. Dana’s Desk” about Lent, this year’s Lenten study again comes to us from the Society of St. John the Evangelist and Virginia Theological Seminary. It is called “Signs of Life,” and explores five symbols – light, water, food, shelter, and community. The study will run for 5 weeks, Tuesdays, March 3-31.
Using video and discussion, it explores the riches of our worship traditions, liturgy and sacraments, as well as the art and architecture of our sacred spaces. In addition to the weekly video and discussion there are additional resources which can be used in conjunction with the study group or on your own, such as a weekly reading, a daily practices calendar and an email you can sign up to receive. I will have the printed resources available on our Lent resources table in mid-February. In the meantime you can learn more and sign up for the email at www.signsoflife.org/ I hope you will consider joining us on Tuesday evenings or using some of the resources on your own.
In addition, Bishop Andrew is hosting a conversation each Tuesday evening in the month of March. The location of the studies will shift week to week throughout the Diocese. You can register to attend one or more evenings on the diocesan website (to give them an idea for refreshments).
